Sen. Oppenheimer's Chief of Staff to Run for NYS Assembly

MAMARONECK, N.Y. -- Former counsel and chief of staff to State Sen. Suzi Oppenheimer (D-Mamaroneck) Steve Otis announced Thursday he will run for the 91st State Assembly District. With many moving parts, Otis throws his hat in to replace Assembly member George Latimer (D-Rye), who just this past Monday announced his candidacy for Oppenheimer's seat in the 37th District of the New York State Senate.  The 91st State Assembly District covers New Rochelle, Larchmont, Mamaroneck, Rye, Port Chester and Rye Brook.  “We need effective representation to address the issues facing Sound Shore residents," Otis said in a statement released Thursday. "I am eager to put my skills and years of public service to work in this new role." Otis, who graduated from New York University with a masters in public administration, worked with Oppenheimer for 27 years, and was Mayor of Rye for 12 years.  "My in-depth experience in state and local government will enable me to be especially effective working for the Sound Shore in the State Assembly," Otis added. The Hofstra University School of Law graduate outlined several priorities, including lowering the cost of government and controlling property taxes, advocating for Westchester schools, improving flood mitigation and emergency management and supporting local businesses.    "It is hard to imagine a better prepared and more knowledgeable person in how state and local government works," said Oppenheimer in the same press release. "I know first-hand that Steve will provide exceptional service to Westchester.”
