Yorktown Heights' Ken Allen Dies Of COVID, High School Teacher Who 'Could Befriend Anyone' It is with deep sadness that we report the death of Kenneth Mitchell Allen on April 14, 2020, a victim of COVID-19. Ken was born May 25, 1936 in the Bronx, the son of Nathan and Jeanette (Fisherman) Allen. He graduated from Morris High School and then entered the army. He served in Germany during the Korean war from 1954 to 1956 as a radio operator. He first planned on making it his career but quickly realized that it was not the career for him.  After being honorably discharged from the Army, he attended City College of New York where he met Marcia Bonchek. Sol Krongelb, Developed Innovative Technology At IBM, Longtime Member of Yorktown Jewish Center Sol Krongelb died on Monday, Nov. 11, surrounded by his family, following a brief illness. Sol was born on Aug. 15, 1932 in Jersey City, New Jersey, to Benjamin and Anna Bloom Krongelb.  In 1953, Sol married his high school sweetheart, Gladys Anne Steinfeld. Sol and Gladys moved to Cambridge, MA, where they both pursued advanced degrees. In 1959, the couple built a home in Somers, and there they raised their three children. Sol and Gladys enjoyed many activities and interests together until Gladys’ passing in 2004. Sol earned a B.S. in engineering physics from NYU in 1953 and a Ph.D.…

Bingo Ball Caller In Northern Westchester, 71, Fixed Multiple Games, Police Say A 71-year-old BINGO caller in Northern Westchester was arrested for "fixing" multiple games following an investigation by the State Gaming Commission, Yorktown Police said. The caller, Neil Simon Gross of Mohegan Lake was arrested Thursday by  Yorktown Police after the Gaming Commission received a complaint about games being fixed at the Yorktown Jewish Center, said Lt. Tom Genter. Genter said the Commission zeroed in on Gross after receiving a complaint from a BINGO player and conducting an investigation into the center's weekly games.
