Police in Northern Westchester are investigating a spate of overnight vehicle break-ins that resulted in personal items being stolen from unlocked cars. The break-ins happened in Yorktown during the overnight hours of Saturday, July 15 into Sunday morning, July 16, according to Yorktown Police. Police are searching for suspects after five vehicles had items stolen at two parks in Fairfield County. The incidents took place in New Canaan beginning around 12:30 p.m., Sunday, July 24 at Irwin and Waveny parks. According to New Canaan Police, the chain of incidents began when a Subaru Forester was reported forcibly entered around 12:30 p.m. at Irwin Park. Thieves broke the windows of parked vehicles in a resident's driveway, stealing four firearms and other valuables from inside, police said. A man who was a suspect in a series of vehicle break-ins was nabbed by police after he was allegedly caught breaking into an area home. Police investigators have apprehended a man who was busted breaking into cars overnight in Westchester. The Yonkers Police Department announced that city resident Hector Hernandez was arrested early on Monday, Aug. 26, after being busted in the area of McLean Avenue attempting to rummage through unlocked cars in the area. A 25-year-old man was taken into police custody after going on a crime spree and breaking into multiple cars in Westchester.
