Train Strikes Tree In Hawthorne, Forcing Change To Rail Service: MTA Two Metro-North trains were temporarily taken offline on Monday, Feb. 17, after striking trees.  The first was reported just after 7:30 a.m. in Wilton, Metro-North said in a social media post. 'Never Forget The Tragedies': Schumer Calls For Safer Train Crossings In Hudson Valley Democratic New York Sen. Chuck Schumer is calling for safer train crossings across the Hudson Valley to prevent more people from being injured or killed in accidents.  To help accomplish this, Schumer announced a two-part plan on Friday, Dec. 9 to increase safety at these crossings and prevent tragedies such as the 2015 train crash in the Westchester County hamlet of Valhalla, which killed six people when a Metro-North train struck an SUV stopped on the tracks.  Schumer also cited the 2013 Spuyten Duyvil train derailment in New York City, which killed four people and injured more …

ID Released For Westchester Man Fatally Struck By Train MTA officials have released the name of a 54-year-old Westchester man who was struck and killed by a train in Fairfield County. New Rochelle resident Noel Smith was struck at approximately 1:30 a.m. on Thursday, May 5, MTA spokesperson Aaron Donovan said, outside of the Stamford Metro-North station. It is unclear what caused Smith to be on the tracks at the time he was struck. Donovan said the investigation into the fatal strike is ongoing, but is not believed to be criminal in nature. ID Released For Man Struck, Killed By Metro-North Train A man who was struck and killed by a Metro-North train in Westchester has been identified. Ramon Rodriguez, 31, of Brooklyn, was killed around 10:12 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 26, when he was struck near the Port Chester station by a train from Stamford and due to arrived at Grand Central around 11:14 p.m., said Metro-North officials.
