Man Charged After Trying To Enter Elementary School In Region, Police Say A man from out of state has been charged after police said he attempted to enter an elementary school in Fairfield County. Just after 1 p.m. on Friday, May 27, school administrators in Stamford from Davenport Elementary School on Newfield Avenue noticed a suspicious man on the school campus, and immediately initiated a lockdown, according to Captain Diedrich Hohn, Commander of Special Investigations for the Stamford PD. One Seriously Injured When Car Hits School Bus Head-On, Stamford Police Said An area woman is undergoing surgery after her car hit a school bus head-on in Stamford, police said. The incident took place around 12:21 p.m., Thursday, March 28, at 765 Newfield Ave., said Stamford Police Sgt. Jeff Booth with the Collision Analysis & Reconstruction Squad.  According to Booth, the crash occurred when a 2006 Toyota Camry driven by a woman was traveling northbound on Newfield Avenue when she allegedly drifted into the southbound lane hitting the bus head-on, he said.
