Armed Man Kidnaps Family At Danbury Stop & Shop, Steals Money, Police Say
Police in Fairfield County are searching for an armed man who allegedly kidnapped a family in the parking lot of a Stop & Shop and allegedly made them drive to a bank and withdraw money. The incident took place in Danbury around 5:30 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 10 at the Stop & Shop on Newtown Road. According to Erin Henry, a spokesperson for the Danbury Police, a family told officers that a man approached their vehicle with a handgun in the parking lot and ordered them to unlock the car. 13 Residents Displaced After Danbury Fire
Thirteen people have been displaced following a fire at a two-and-half-story residential building in Danbury. Firefighters responded to the fire just after 10:30 p.m., Monday, May 15 after receiving multiple 911 calls reporting a structure fire on Main Street, said Capt. Kevin Lunnie, of the Danbury Fire Department. The first arriving units found heavy fire conditions in the rear of the building. Roadway Reopens After Large Protest
This story has been updated. A stretch of I-84 has reopened after hundreds protesting police-related deaths entered the highway. The closure, in both directions, was between exits 4 and 5 in Danbury on Wednesday, June 3 and lasted about an hour, starting just before 2:30 p.m. The protest began on Main Street early in the afternoon with more than 1,000 people. A smaller amount, but still in the hundreds, then proceeded to the interstate. Other protests are planned for this afternoon in Fairfield County in New Canaan and Stamford. Black Bear Not Under Any Stay-Home Order Takes Stroll Down Main Street
Just when everyone is inside obeying the Stay Home, Stay Safe, rule, a local bear nicknamed "Dan Berry" came to visit a local main street. According to a post by Danbury Mayor Mark Boughton on Monday, April 20, the bear was spotted on Main Street and New Street Fire House. The bear was spotted and photographed by Danbury City Council President Joe Cavo. No word back from the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection if the bear is tagged or will be relocated. At least he has plenty of room to roam.

ID Released For Teen Killed In I-84 Crash
A teenager who was killed in a fiery crash on I-84 has been identified. Danbury resident Liam Declan Devine, 17, was driving west on I-84 shortly before 10:30 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 17 near Exit 9 in Newtown when he lost control of his vehicle, Connecticut State Police said. Devine traveled through the grass out of control, over an embankment and into a tree. When Devine struck the tree, his vehicle became fully engulfed in flames. Police Nab Suspected Drug Dealer Making Bank Deposit In Area
A crackdown on suspected drug dealers in the area resulted in a new arrest of a dealer making a bank deposit in Danbury. For the second time this week, the Danbury Police Department’s Special Investigations Division executed a search and seizure warrant, which led to the arrest of two men in Danbury. Danbury resident Cristopher Marcos, 22, who was the focus of a weekslong investigation related to drug sales from his Osborne Street home, was arrested on Wednesday.
