New York officials are hard at work making preparations for a historic solar eclipse event that will be the first one visible in the state in nearly a century. The total eclipse will be visible in the western and northern parts of New York state during the afternoon of Monday, April 8, according to Gov. Kathy Hochul and her office. Former Briarcliff Resident Burt Erickson Passes Away at 100
Burt Erickson, 100 years young, formerly of Briarcliff Manor and Chicago, IL, passed away peacefully on Oct. 23, 2023 at the Veteran’s Association Nursing Home in Montrose, where he received wonderful care. Burt was born on March 8, 1923 in Chicago, the son of Frances and Burton Erickson. He was the oldest of three children. He was predeceased in death by his sister Gertrude “Trudie” Hodges and his brother Jerome “Jerry” Erickson. Burt married the love of his life Rita Marie Jerome on Dec. 27, 1952. That darn cat. Or was it? An incident that happened in upstate New York last week required a teamwide effort by members of the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation. A video from the town of Wilmington in Essex County, about 12 miles northeast of Lake Placid, captured the predator that killed a deer in a local resident's driveway. Seen him? A statewide alert has been issued by the police as they attempt to locate a missing man who hasn’t been since leaving a New York hospital. On Tuesday, Dec. 14, state police investigators released photos of Essex County resident Brandon Euber, age 27, of Lake Placid, who was reported missing. One of Westchester’s most accomplished and popular track coaches is running his way right into the Hall of Fame. Andy Capellan, who has coached the New Rochelle High School girls cross country, indoor and outdoor track and field teams has been named one of six who will be inducted into the New York State Public High School Association’s Hall of Fame in the summer.
