Search For Missing Man Leads To Lake Carmel Closure Lake Carmel is closed to swimmers and boaters as emergency responders search for a missing man. The Lake Carmel Fire Department said it was dispatched on a report of a missing swimmer at around 7:35 p.m. Saturday, July 20. The man has been identified as a Connecticut resident in his 50s. The department was assisted in the search by the Carmel Fire Department, Mahopac Falls Volunteer Fire Department dive team and Putnam County Sheriff's Department, Kent Police. Update: Man Taken Into Custody After Being Barricaded In Lake Carmel Update, 10:30 p.m. A man who barricaded himself inside a home in Lake Carmel was taken into custody late Friday night. The incident began Friday afternoon around 3:40 p.m. in the Vernon Drive area when a family member called police reporting the situation. The Putnam Sheriff's Department and Kent Police responded with assistance from Westchester County Police.
