A Connecticut contractor has been criminally charged in connection to a trench collapse at a construction site in New York that killed a 46-year-old man, officials announced. Fairfield County resident Michael Conway of Bethel, age 59, was arraigned in Westchester County Court on criminal charges in connection to the fatal collapse, which happened in Mamaroneck in May 2021 and killed Stamford resident Jose Vega, the Westchester County District Attorney's Office announced on Monday, Feb. 26. Injured Workers Removed From Westchester Construction Site Twice In 3 Days
A Westchester County fire department had to come to the rescue of injured workers at a construction site twice in three days. The first rescue came on Saturday, Nov. 12, at an unspecified New Rochelle construction site when an injured worker had to be removed from the fifth floor by ladder, according to the New Rochelle Fire Department. A similar incident then happened on Tuesday, Nov. 15, when two more workers were injured on the 6th floor, which also required them to be removed from the site by ladder, the fire department said. Worker In Critical Condition After Falling 30 Feet Through Opening On Roof Of Stamford Business
A roofing employee fell more than 30 feet through a skylight, landing on a concrete warehouse floor while working on a Stamford's businesses' roof. The incident took place around 1:34 p.m. Wednesday at 55 Sunnyside Ave., after the employee misstepped and fell through the opening, said Stamford Fire Deputy Chief Eric Lorenz. The man received critical head injuries, as well as other injuries, Lorenz said. He was transferred to a local hospital in critical condition. This is a developing story. Injured Construction Worker Rescued By Stamford Firefighters
A construction worker had to be rescued after shoring gave way and fell on top of the man who was standing below. The incident took place Thursday at 1 Greyrock Place in Stamford when structural shoring being removed gave way, falling on a worker who was positioned below it, said Stamford Fire Capt. Philip Hayes in a statement. Responding units from the Stamford Fire Department and Stamford EMS found the worker in an elevated confined space area of the building which was under construction, Hayes said.
