CROSS RIVER, N.Y. When John Jay-Cross River scored a touchdown on its first possession of the second half Friday night against Harrison High, pushing the Indians' lead to a spacious 27 points, it appeared John Jay was well on its way to a second victory.
Harrison, however, had other ideas.
Harrison scored the game's final four touchdowns for an improbable 35-34 victory over John Jay in a Section 1 Class A football game.
The 28 unanswered points were punctuated by Kevin Nathansons 13-yard run and the ensuing extra point kick with 2:44 remaining.
Prior to Harrisons second-half surge, John Jay was in complete control of the game, thanks to Tyler Keech and Jack Lambert.
Keech completed 9 of 12 passes for 128 yards a touchdown to Lambert in the first half. Lambert also had a 5-yard scoring run and threw a 28-yard touchdown pass to Joe Kells.
John Jays final touchdown came on a fake punt early in the third quarter. Brandon Lee dropped back to punt, but instead threw to a wide-open Tommy Beck flanked out right. Beck grabbed the pass, broke a few tackles and ran 43 yards for the score, giving John Jay a 34-7 lead.
