The accident, which occurred around 3:30 a.m. in the area of Spring Street and Spring Street South, injured one person who was transported to the hospital, said New York State Trooper Douglas Acker.
The vehicle, which lost control on the wet roadway, became entangled in several power lines. Firefighters remained on the scene for more than three hours waiting for NYSEG to arrive with its equipment to begin replacing a power pole, transformer and wires that were destroyed during the accident.
South Salem firefighters said that residents should take note and remember if they are ever in an accident involving downed power lines to remain in the car because the lines may still have power running through them.
