Jose A. Catala died when his 1999 Mitsubishi Montero inexplicably left the road and rolled over in a wooded area along I-684 near Interstate 287, state police said.
The one-car crash occurred at 11:04 a.m.
State police from the Somers barracks responded to mile post marker 1.6. Police have not said if a medical condition or distraction contributed to Catala's fatal crash.
An investigation revealed that Catala was traveling southbound in the left lane of I-684. Police said that Catala suddenly exited the roadway off of the right-hand shoulder and entered a wooded area where the vehicle overturned. Catala was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, police said.
State police were assisted by the Purchase Fire Department, Harrison EMS and the Westchester County Medical Examiner's Office.
Trooper Melissa McMorris said there were no passengers in Mr. Catala's car.
