Lost $10M State Grant, Late Campaign Finance Reports Spark Debate In Ossining Mayoral Race
Mayoral candidates in the Village of Ossining clashed over the village's inability to receive a $10 million state economic redevelopment grant. On her website, Ossining Mayor Victoria Gearity claimed that village Trustee Omar Herrera, who is challenging her for mayor on Tuesday, Nov. 6, jeopardized the village’s chances of being awarded a Downtown Revitalization Initiative Grant from the MidHudson Region of the Regional Economic Development Councils (REDC). Earlier this year, Herrera proposed a building moratorium for Ossining. “The REDC will only entrust $10M to a community with leader…

Westchester Candidate Embroiled In Controversy Over Racially Charged Tweets
An Ossining 29-year-old seeking a seat on the Village Board withdrew his candidacy this week after backlash over a dozen racist and misogynistic tweets became public. Political newcomer David Kezafrika, who was seeking one of the two open village trustee seats while running on the Working Families Party (WFP) line, came under scrutiny after TheExaminerNews.com published several posts Kezafrika admitted making on a Twitter account. Kezafrika later apologized, saying: “It was never my intention to offend or otherwise add to the discourse of adversity and hatred that is already too prevalent …

Working Families Party Withdraws Nixon Ballot Line, Backs Incumbent Gov. Cuomo
Good news for Gov. Andrew Cuomo. Potentially bad news for the future of the Working Families Party. The WFP nominated Cuomo of New Castle for re-election on Wednesday night after he defeated the third party's endorsed candidate, actor Cynthia Nixon, in the Sept. 13 primary. But the last-minute maneuver puts the party, founded as an alliance between leftwing activists and some unions, at risk: It needs 50,000 votes on Nov. 6 to retain its line on New York state ballots for the next four years. The party voted to place Cuomo and his running mate, Lt. Governor Kathy Hochul, on the WFP ballot…

New Siena Poll Gives Early Look At How Cuomo-Molinaro Race Stands Now
A new Siena College Research Institute Poll indicates how the race between Gov. Andrew Cuomo and Republican challenger Marc Molinaro could become closer if Democratic primary loser Cynthia Nixon remains on a third-party ballot line. In the latest poll released on Monday, Oct. 1, Siena found that Cuomo, a Democrat seeking a third-term, leads Dutchess County Executive Marc Molinaro by 50 to 28 percent. But the same poll found that Nixon, who lost to Cuomo in the Sept. 13 primary election, could still drew 10 percent of the statewide vote if her name remains on the Working Families Party line…

Could Third-Party Candidates Play Spoiler Roles In November Governor's Race? Stay Tuned
Related, updates in this Daily Voice story. The leaders of a small but influential Working Families Party are scheduled to vote on Wednesday, Oct. 3 to decide whether to keep Cynthia Nixon as its candidate for governor on Nov. 6, or endorse Gov. Andrew Cuomo and avoid playing the role of a spoiler. Green Party candidate Howie Hawkins also is seeking to be on the WFP ballot line on Nov. 6 instead of Nixon. One of the possible deals is backing Nixon in a state Assembly race against a fellow Democratic lesbian, Deborah Glick, as reported here earlier by the New York Post. The problem is: …

Twitter Storm: Upset Winner Ocasio-Cortez Spars With Defeated Incumbent
Progressive Democratic congressional candidate Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez -- a Yorktown High School graduate -- accused her former primary opponent U.S. Rep. Joe Crowley of mounting a third party challenge after her stunning upset of the powerful House Democrat in June. In this New York Time's article, a spokeswoman for Crowley said he would not run a third-party campaign: Asked about Crowley’s plans regarding the Working Families Party line, the campaign spokeswoman said: “Joe Crowley is a Democrat. He’s made clear he is not running for Congress and supports the Democratic nominee in NY-14.”…

Cuomo Negative Rating Soars, But He Still Leads Nixon, Molinaro
Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s favorability rating fell to 49-44 percent this month, matching his lowest favorability rating, according to a new Siena College poll of New York state registered voters. Among Democrats, Cuomo has a 62-32 percent favorability rating, compared to 33-23 percent for his Democratic Party primary challenger, Cynthia Nixon. Head-to-head, Cuomo leads Nixon among registered Democrats by 58-27 percent, down from 66-19 percent last month -- before Nixon declared her candidacy. Cuomo maintains large leads over Republican Dutchess County Executive Marc Molinaro and state Sen. John…
