While residents chose their berries and pick out zucchini, they are urged to donate money and raise funds for children who require a heart surgery or transplant.
The fundraiser for the Gift of Life Foundation was created by interns for the Greenburgh Town Supervisor. The Gift of Life "Battle of the Bands" will take place Saturday at the Hartsdale farmers market across from the train station. From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., four bands will each perform hourly.
"The other interns and I feel that this is a great charity to raise money [for] and spread throughout the community through this benefit concert," said Zach Bergenfeld, one of Town Supervisor Paul Feiner's interns. "And what's a better place for it to occur than the Hartsdale farmers market?"
For every $6,000 raised, one child can have a surgery or transplant needed to survive, said Bergenfeld.
The interns will also be selling greeting cards where the money raised will be donated to the Gift of Life Foundation. Local merchants are encouraged to donate gift cards for attendees to purchase and those profits will also go towards heart surgeries.
Feiner and Greenburgh Councilman Kevin Morgan thanked Bergenfeld and the other interns for their efforts in organizing the "Battle of the Bands."
Bergenfeld is currently finishing his senior year at Ardsley High School and plans to study business at the University of Southern California in the fall. The other interns are Josh Ringel, Jon Rood and David Schuman.
