With warm and muggy temperatures in Greenburgh, the National Weather Service issued a tornado watch to remain in effect until 8 p.m.
While some residents hung their laundry in the sun to dry this morning, the skies have darkened bringing some afternoon rain. According to the National Weather Service, thunderstorms are expected to begin this later and should taper off in the evening, although it might drizzle at night.
"The past several years were very rough with some of these storms," said Greenburgh Police Captain Chris McNerney, Commanding Officer of the Detective Division. "So we try to have extra personnel lined up and we have our barricade truck. Trees down, wires down, flash flooding and roads flooding those are the things we're used to dealing with."
The Greenburgh Police Department reports that the number of incoming calls rises during times of bad weather, and they are on alert this afternoon and evening for extra care resident might have during the storm.
May's weather ran the gamut, bringing in a week of solid rain and plenty of bright sun. The first week of June is predicted to end with temperatures ranging from 60 to 80.
