Greenburgh OK's New Sidewalks In Edgemont

GREENBURGH, N.Y. -- The Greenburgh Town Board approved a resolution that will result in additional sidewalks being built in Edgemont beginning in 2016, at a special Town Board meeting this past Friday. Edgemont has no school busing and Board members want to make it safer for children to walk to school. The Police Chief has recommended that sidewalks be built around town.

Although the resolution that was approved pertains to only Edgemont, the town has been building sidewalks all over town. In 2015, 1.6 miles of new sidewalks have been built or are close to being built in different neighborhoods. Most of the construction has been paid for by developers as a condition of approvals, according to the town. In 2016, Greenburgh will include funds in the capital budget for sidewalk construction and plans to seek federal and state grants to help expedite the safety initiative, Town Supervisor Paul Feiner says. "We intend to include a line item in every capital budget in the future for additional sidewalk construction."

The summary of the resolution, including which streets will get a makeover, can be found attached below.
