Lawrence Street Petition Gains Traction In Greenburgh

GREENBURGH, N.Y. -- During last Thursday's rush hour, residents and policymakers took to the streets to observe what residents feel is an increasingly dangerous stretch of road on Lawrence Street.

New York State Assemblyman Tom Abinanti, State Senator Andrea Stewart-Cousins, and Westchester County Board of Regulator's MaryJane Shimsky, as well as Town Supervisor Paul Feiner and other civic and police representatives watched as heavy traffic snarled the northbound ramp of the Saw Mill River Parkway at Lawrence Street.

Many residents feel that the NYS Department of Transportation should construct a right turn lane on North at Lawrence Street. The current absence of such lane creates a choke point in the ever-growing area of town and creates dangerous driving conditions for the thousands of commuters who use the road daily.

"Overall DOT confirmed that they hear us, they take our concerns seriously, and they’ll be officially initiating some major data collection soon, conducted over a defined time period," said Erich Hartmann, a Greenburgh resident who also attended the information gathering. Additionally, leaders expressed their support and admiration for the citizens in becoming more involved in these local issues and processes.
