Last week, construction finished on the installation of the new Rapid Flashing High Visibility Crosswalk Beacon in front of 140 East Hartsdale Ave. The sign is designed to alert drivers that a person is either waiting to cross the street, or is in the process of doing so.
"I was driving on East Hartsdale Avenue a number of times this past week and am very excited about this new safety improvement," Town Supervisor Paul Feiner said. "The flashing lights at the crosswalk definitely caught my attention and I slowed down. And, so did other drivers."
The town of Greenburgh plans on handing out literature and speaking to the residents and commuters that utilize East Hartsdale Avenue this week, in an effort to improve pedestrian safety.
In addition to the flashing signs on East Hartsdale Avenue, stop signs have been placed on North and South Road, which was the site of a fatal hit and run earlier this year. The improvement also comes at a time where the town has built or is close to building 1.6 miles of new sidewalks, with more planned for next year.
