Hastings Parents Pursue Additional Funding For 'Shortchanged' Schools

GREENBURGH, N.Y. -- The Hastings on Hudson PTA is encouraging area residents to sign this online petition asking the State legislature to properly fund schools, according to Greenburgh Town Supervisor Paul Feiner.

"It's my hope that this initiative will receive priority attention in Albany in 2016. During the last legislative session State Senator Andrea Stewart Cousins and Assemblyman Tom Abinanti pushed -- without success -- to help the Greenburgh school district get the funding that they should be entitled to but are not receiving from Albany,'' Feiner said.

According to a release by the Hastings PTA, New York State has been shortchanging all school districts for at least five years, forcing Hastings-on-Hudson schools to make hard budget choices and causing taxes to rise. They claim that had they received full funding last year, Hastings schools would have been eligible for a tax decrease.
