Area Town Near Massive 150-Acre Wildfire Declares State Of Emergency A Hudson Valley town near the massive 150-acre wildfire consuming a section of a state park has issued a state of emergency and instituted a burn ban. The Ulster County town of Shawangunk issued the order and the band on Sunday, Aug. 28 after the fire was sparked by a lightning strike in the Minnewaska State Park in Ellenville.  The area's drought conditions and the fire led to the burn ban which runs through Wednesday, Sept. 28, according to town officials. Man Killed In Head-On Crash In Area A man from the region was killed during a two-vehicle crash in the Hudson Valley. The crash took place in Ulster County in the town of Lloyd on Tuesday, May 17. Alfredo Gomes, age 59, of Lloyd, was killed while driving a 1997 Toyota Corolla, westbound on Route 299 when he crossed the double yellow line and ran head-on into a 2021 Volvo driven by Ashley Guerrero, age 35, of the city of Poughkeepsie, said Trooper Steven Nevel, of the New York State Police. Man Nabbed For Stabbing In Area An area man accrued multiple felonies after stabbing another man in the stomach, according to police.  Police in Ulster County responded to the intersection of Foxhall and Flatbush Avenues in Kingston after a 911 caller reported a possible assault and stabbing on Monday, Sept. 21 at approximately 6 p.m.  Shortly after locating and administering first aid to a 39-year-old man bleeding from an apparent stab wound to the stomach, officers assisted by a K-9 unit located 30-year-old suspect Christopher D.
