Man From Region Arrested 4 Times In 2-Week Span For Stalking, Police say A man from the region was arrested four times in two weeks for allegedly stalking and harassing an employee of a local bank. Sullivan County resident Jhakem Degroat, age 31, of Monticello was arrested for the fourth time in Liberty on Friday, Oct. 13, said Chief Steven D’Agata of the Liberty Police. All of the arrests stemmed from incidents surrounding his stalking and harassing behavior of an employee at a local bank in the village of Liberty, D'Agata said. 16-Year-Old Nabbed In Shooting Of Woman From Region, Police Say A 16-year-old has been charged with criminal use of a weapon in connection with the shooting of a woman from the region. The teen was arrested in Sullivan County in the village of Liberty on Wednesday, Sept. 6. According to Lt. Mark Johnstone of the Monticello Police, the juvenile was wanted for the Saturday, July 15, shooting of a 27-year-old Monticello woman that occurred at the Sleepy Hollow apartment complex at Terry Lane in the village of Monticello. Murder Charge: 16-Month-Old Girl In Region Dies At Hands Of Couple, Police Say A man and a woman from the region have been charged in the death of a 16-month-old girl found unresponsive in the lobby of a motel. The incident took place in Sullivan County around 7:30 p.m., on Tuesday, May 2 at the Knights Inn Motel in the village of Liberty. According to Liberty Police, officers responded to a 911 call for a child in cardiac arrest at the motel located on Route 52. Luisa Campos went missing from her Sullivan County home in the village of Liberty on Monday, Sept. 26, said the Liberty Police. She may be in the company of a man in the local area, police say. 29-Year-Old Threatens Victim With Machete In Region, Police Say A 29-year-old man was nabbed for attacking another person with a machete on a busy street in the region. The incident took place in Sullivan County around 9 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 4 on Main Street in the Village of Liberty. According to Liberty Police, a dispatcher monitoring the department's Main Street surveillance cameras spotted what appeared to be two people involved in a fight. Officers were dispatched and upon their arrival saw  Brandon Luciano, of Callicoon, with a machete in his hand menacing another person, police said. Man Accused Of Helping His Wife Die By Suicide In Area A man from the area has been arrested and charged with manslaughter for allegedly helping his wife commit suicide. Sullivan County resident Kenneth Alger III, age 38, of Liberty, was arrested in March after his wife's body was found in a cemetery in Liberty. Alger was indicted by a grand jury for manslaughter that alleged around Tuesday, Feb. 28, he intentionally "caused and aided Amanda Alger, age 31, his wife, to commit suicide," the indictment said.
