BEEKMAN, N.Y. -- Candidates for Beekman town supervisor clashed over accountability at a candidates forum one day after most of the town funds stolen by a former town comptroller were recovered, according to a report in the Poughkeepsie Journal.
Republican incumbent Barbara Zulauf defended her tenure as supervisor, but her opponent, Conservative/Democrat Neil Martin criticized her record, the Journal reported.
On Tuesday, Zulauf reported that the town's insurer had given Beekman about $440,000 of the $539,000 ex-comptroller Fred Knapp admitted to taking from the town, according to the Journal.
