Ruth Eleanor Lyon, 82, Of Poughquag

POUGHQUAG, N.Y. – Ruth Eleanor Lyon, a longtime resident of Poughquag, died Thursday, June 2. She was 82.

Born July 9, 1933, in Sharon, Conn., she was the daughter of Harold and Dorothy (Denton) Gloyd.

In 1950, she graduated from Pawling High School, and in 1952, she graduated from Delhi SUNY. She married Frederick C. Lyon Sept.28, 1952 in Patterson.

She operated the coffee shop at Gloyd’s Motel in Whaley Lake for many years and later became the postmaster in the Poughquag and LaGrange post offices.

She is survived by her four daughters, Susan Sullivan of Poughquag, MaryJane Ulrich of Corinth, Joan Nelson of Wappingers, and Rose McNerney of Holmes; nine grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her husband, Fred.

Family and friends may call from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the Horn & Thomes Inc. Funeral Home, 83 E. Main St., Pawling. There will be a funeral service at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
