Who Has The Best Brunch in Dutchess County?
- Beacon Falls Cafe, Beacon
- McKinney & Doyle, Pawling
- Shadows On the Hudson, Poughkeepsie
Three nominees are in the running for the “DVlicious best in Dutchess,” each of which is being profiled this week. What follows are some tasty morsels to chew on, giving you food for thought before you click on your favorite.
Keep in mind you can vote multiple times, albeit once per day. Voting ends 5 p.m. Wednesday, June 29th.
McKinney & Doyle, 10 Charles Colman Blvd., Pawling, (845) 855-3875
Why Go: CIA grads Shannon McKinney and Brian Doyle’s motto: “All you need is love and brunch.” You can tell that someplace is the local go-to when it starts naming brunch dishes for customers – like the crispy, fatty Judge Malone hash topped with an egg and served in a skillet, and Jerry Aron’s Favorite, a soup made to order with sautéed shrimp and scallops in a sauterne-leek cream. Aron was an elderly New York City resident who would send a car service up the Taconic to Pawling to fetch a quart whenever he had a craving for fresh seafood.
Worth Waking Up For: Because McKinney & Doyle is also a bakery, you know their pastry and breads are made from scratch. American actor and the unmistakable voice of Darth Vader, James Earl Jones, has been spotted lingering over a omelette or two there. And when you can have fresh muffins -- and celebrities on the side -- what better recipe for an unforgettable brunch?
When: Saturdays and Sundays, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Prix Fixe? No. Menu items are individually priced.
