Update: Funeral Arrangements Announced For Beloved Westchester Corrections Officer, Age 40

Funeral arrangement details have been announced for a beloved corrections officer from Westchester who was killed in a crash.

Westchester Correction Officer Eleanor Birrittella of Yonkers died on Saturday, April 20 in a crash at the age of 40, according to the New York Correctional Officers' Benevolent Organization.

Birrittella had been a corrections officer for three years before her death and had also served with the Westchester County Board of Elections, according to the Westchester Republican County Committee. 

In a statement on Sunday, April 21, the Westchester Correction Association said they were "deeply saddened" to hear of Birrittella's death. 

"Officer Birrittella’s dedication and service to her community will always be remembered and cherished," the Association wrote, adding, "Officer Birrittella’s sacrifice and service will not be forgotten. May she rest in peace, and may her legacy live on in the hearts of those who knew her." 

Visitations for Birrittella will be held on Thursday, April 25 from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m., and Friday, April 26 from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. at Sinatra Memorial Home in Yonkers at 499 Yonkers Ave. 

A Mass will also be held on Friday, April 26 at 10:30 a.m. at the Mt. Carmel Church in Yonkers at 70 Park Hill Ave.
