Columbus Letter Comes Home To Fairfield's Pequot Library SOUTHPORT, Conn. - After 60 years, the Columbus Letter is returning to the Pequot Library following it's loan to Yale University. During a special viewing Saturday Dec. 5, the public will be able to take part in a unique viewing of the letter written in 1493 by Christopher Columbus. George Miles, from Yale University, will show the letter and speak about its importance. Metro-North Plans Special Train Schedules For Thanksgiving Weekend FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. - A special holiday schedule will be in place for Metro-North's New Haven Line trains during the Thanksgiving weekend. From Thursday, November 26 through Sunday, November 29 the special schedule will be available in Grand Central or at our outlying stations or on the TrainTime App. Because of potential reduced ridership, some evening trains may be cancelled or combined. Norwalk Hospital, Gudis Family Donate 100 Defibrillators To Community NORWALK, Conn. - The Gudis Family of Westport has teamed up with Norwalk Hospital to donate 100 AEDs to the communities of New Canaan, Norwalk, Weston, Westport and Wilton.An automated external defibrillator, or AED, is a portable device that delivers an electrical shock to a heart that is not beating with the intent of restoring normal electrical activity so that the heart will beat again. The donation follows a recent incident in Westport when Mark Gudis, a Norwalk Hospital Trustee, helped to save the life of a 17-year-old student at a Staples High School sporting event in October. Norwalk Fire Department Offers Thanksgiving Safety Tips NORWALK, Conn. - With Thanksgiving fast approaching, the Norwalk Fire Department is asking residents to be extra cautious during holiday cooking.Fire departments in the U.S. responded to an estimated average of 162,400 home cooking fires per year between 2009 and 2013, according to Norwalk fire officials. These fires resulted in an average of 430 civilian fire deaths, 5,400 injures reported, and $1.1 billion in direct property damage. Orangetown Eagle Scout Honors Family's WWII History With Restoration ORANGETOWN, N.Y. - A local Boy Scout has found a unique way to remember his family's history with World War II by taking it upon himself to replicate the historic sign post at Orangetown's Camp Shank. New Rochelle Police Department Gets New K-9 Thanks To Donation NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. -- A donation to the New Rochelle Police Foundation will help the department in getting a new dog for the department's K-9 unit.The Ramiro Lopez of Ramiro’s Tree Service donated $5,000 to the Foundation. The donation will be used for the new dog, to be named Diesel in honor of the French police dog killed in last Wednesday’s police raid. Additionally, the New Rochelle Police Foundation will donate $2,000 to the French police for their canine unit. The check will be presented next week.

Tesei Dedicates Historic District Marker in Downtown Greenwich GREENWICH, Conn. - The first of nine signs, designating local and national historic districts in Greenwich, will be put up the Monday after Thanksgiving at the Greenwich Municipal Center. A ceremony will take place at 11 a.m. Nov. 30, where First Selectman Peter Tesei will dedicate the new marker commemorating the history of the Greenwich Municipal Center Historic District. Darien Police Now Trained To Use Narcan DARIEN, Conn. - This past week, officers in the Darien Police Department were trained in the use of Naloxone, more commonly known as NARCAN, a fast-acting drug used in overdoses, reported the Darien Times. In the Darien Times, they reported the officers worked with the Darien Emergency Medical Services on how to deploy the opiod antagonist.
