Victim Dies 7 Months After Being Shot; Suspected Shooter Held Without Bail The victim of a summertime shooting has just died, according to the Worcester County District Attorney, and a suspect in the man’s death has been arraigned in court. Jose A. Merced, 32, of Worcester, was arrested Saturday, Jan. 30, about 13 hours after the shooting victim had died, DA Joseph D. Early, Jr., said in a statement. The initial violence took place on July 9 around 5 p.m. on Mount Pleasant Street. Search And Rescue: Police Seek Lost Man At Height Of Winter Storm As snow poured down from the night sky, Enfield Police received a report of a man wandering, apparently lost in the woods. The call came in around 7 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 1 when a resident observed a familiar person walk through their yard and into the woods, police said. “They felt this was highly unusual, especially since it was 27 degrees out,” police said. Pediatric multi-system inflammatory syndrome (MIS-C) is high in 10 states across the U.S., including Massachusetts, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Fire At Homeless Tent City Fills Downtown With Black Smoke A fire at an unofficial homeless tent city created big clouds of black smoke rising from downtown Northampton on Sunday, Jan. 31. At around 10 a.m. on Sunday, Northampton Police started to receive reports of a fire at the unofficial, transient encampment under the New South Street bridge. One person suffered minor injuries and was transported to the hospital, Northampton Police said. The fire quickly extinguished. An investigation into the blaze indicates that the fire was started accidentally by a propane space heater inside one of the tents.

On Friday, Jan. 29, Chicopee Police reached out to the public for help finding Saray Ortiz, 16, who has been missing since Jan. 26. Saray is the seventh missing girl reported in Chicopee since November.
