Nixon, a four-year varsity player and member of Tuckahoe's 2010 state football championship team and last year's Class C state championship basketball team, began the season as a running back and linebacker, but moved to quarterback midway through the season.
The senior signal-caller didn't miss a beat after moving to quarterback and led the team to a 35-6 victory against Haldane in the Section 1 championship game and a 34-18 victory versus Chester in the state quarterfinals in early November.
With a chance at a state title, Nixon showed poise and determination by keying a 14-12 victory against Rensselaer in the state semifinals. The Tigers earned a visit to the Carrier Dome in Syracuse for the Class D state title game, where the they fell to Randolph High School.
Nixon rushed for 985 yards and six touchdowns and passed for 305 yards and three touchdowns for the season. He also was a key defensive player at linebacker, where he was the team's leader in tackles. With the football season behind him, Nixon joins the Tigers' basketball team in defending its Section 1 and Class C state championships this month.
