EASTCHESTER, N.Y. Eastchester police arrested two people Monday and charged them with stealing items from gym lockers at Eastchester High School.
According to Eastchester Police Lt. Jeffrey Hunter, three high school students reported that items had been taken from their gym lockers April 27. Taken were two iPhones and an LG Rumor slide cell phone, each worth several hundred dollars, and $180 in cash.
After an investigation, police arrested David Horvath, 19, of Mamaroneck, and a juvenile, and charged them with grand larceny. Horvath was also charged with endangering the welfare of a child. They were released on their own recognizance.

Pot bust: A 19-year-old White Plains man was arrested at a traffic safety checkpoint at 11 a.m. April 27 and given a violation notice for possession of marijuana after officers detected an odor coming from the car. Police said they also saw a small amount of marijuana on the driver's clothing. Hunter said the driver consented to a vehicle search and two small glassine bags of marijuana were found. The man was charged with unlawful possession of marijuana and released on $100 bond.
Hot car: A Michigan-registered 2004 Dodge Stratus with a loud muffler emitting heavy exhaust caught fire at 2:28 a.m. April 29 while traveling north on White Plains Road. The driver got out of the car at a stop light and saw the flames. An Eastchester police sergeant witnessed the problem and called the fire department, which responded and extinguished the fire. The driver, a woman, was cited for unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.
Taken to the cleaners: A burglary was reported April 30 at Best Choice Cleaners, 787 White Plains Road. A rear window was forced open, Hunter said, and several items, plus $50 cash, were taken.
Car burglaries: Two cars were broken into April 30 in the parking lot outside the Susan Marlowe Fitness Club at 80 Maple St. The front passenger side window was smashed and a Coach bag valued at $300 was taken from a 1994 Honda Accord. The front passenger window was smashed on a 2009 Infiniti as well. Taken were a Gucci wallet valued at $300, credit cards, $40 in cash and a pair of shoes valued at $300. The incidents were reported at 6:30 and 7:30 p.m.
Snatch and run: A boy playing basketball at Leewood Park reported that a group of teens stole items from his bag and ran off. The boy said there were three boys between 16 and 18 years old near his bag, and two approached the bag, reached in and then ran. Taken were an iPhone valued at $500, a wallet valued at $40 and containing $35 in cash, and headphones valued at $40.
