Last week, more than $30,000 was raised for the foundation as dozens gathered at The Riverview to celebrate the 10th anniversary of Paul Luisi’s successful stem cell transplant to treat his leukemia.
Since the Paul Luisi Foundation was founded a decade ago, the organization has raised more than $275,000 that has been used to fund various pediatric cancer charities and hospitals.
Currently, the foundation’s main benefactor is Dr. Mitchell Ciaro, who is the chief of pediatric stem cell transplantation at the Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital at Westchester Medical Center.
The Paul Luisi Foundation was started 10 years ago, when the then-11-year-old Luisi was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia, which was treated through a stem cell transplant using his brother’s cells. A decade later, he is a University of Delaware student while his foundation continues to raise awareness of pediatric cancer.
Donations to the Paul Luisi Foundation can be made online here or by a check to P.O. Box 213, Tuckahoe, NY 10707.
