According to a poll conducted by Emerson College Polling/PIX11/The Hill released on Tuesday, June 11, Latimer currently leads Bowman 48 percent to 31 percent. Meanwhile, 21 percent of voters are still undecided.
The 16th district includes the southern part of Westchester, including the suburban cities of White Plains, Mount Vernon, Yonkers, New Rochelle, and Rye, and a small portion of the northern Bronx.
Support for the two candidates among Democratic primary voters varies by age: those under 40 support Bowman 44 percent to 35 percent, while voters aged 40 to 59 support Latimer 53 percent to 31 percent.
The difference becomes more apparent by age: voters in their 60s support Latimer 46 percent to 26 percent, while voters over 70 support Latimer 53 percent to 22 percent.
In addition to age, support for the two candidates also varies by race: Black voters support Bowman 48 percent to 34 percent, while white voters support Latimer 62 percent to 20 percent.
As for Hispanic voters, support for both is more even: 36 percent support Bowman and Latimer respectively.
The poll also includes data on voters' opinions on important issues in the race, such as the war between Israel and Hamas: 45 percent of voters align more with Latimer, who has been more sympathetic towards Israel and visited the country weeks after the attack.
Twenty-nine percent align more with Bowman, who has been one of the loudest voices in Congress calling for an immediate and permanent ceasefire.
Following the poll's release, both the Latimer and Bowman camps put out statements:
"Today’s poll shows why our grassroots campaign keeps building momentum across the 16th congressional district," said Latimer's campaign, which added, "Voters in The Bronx and Westchester are tired of the performative politics and political dysfunction in Washington and want a representative they can trust to deliver real results, not rhetoric."
Bowman's campaign attributed Latimer's lead to consistent attacks on his credibility and efforts from megadonors: "The voters of our district have been flooded with polls and attack ads for months, dividing our community and distorting my record.
"AIPAC’s Republican megadonors have spent a record setting $13 million dollars to sow disillusionment and depress turnout."
"But this election is about the many versus the money. Our volunteers are talking to tens of thousands of voters across the district every week, and our data shows consistently that through direct conversations, voters see through the lies and are energized to reject AIPAC’s attempt to buy this seat. On June 25th, we decide," Bowman's statement continued.
The intensifying race has exposed tensions within the Democratic party over the Israel-Gaza conflict, which has become a large issue within the 16th District, where one of the country's densest populations of Jewish residents is located.
Voters will choose between Latimer and Bowman on Tuesday, June 25.
