Upcoming Car Show is Going to the Dogs

Cathy Capasso’s affection for animals is easy to see. Whether she’s introducing you to Scarlett O’Hara, the black-and-white cat whose photo occupies the front screen of her iPhone or talking about the volunteer hours she puts in at Guiding Eyes for the Blind in White Plains, they play a large role in her life.

So, when the Eastchester resident learned from agents she met through her realty company, Catherine Cornelia Real Estate, about owners who callously abandoned their pets after they had moved, she realized she had to do something to help.

“We thought, 'What about the animals that get left behind to fend for themselves?'” she said.

That concern for cats and dogs is what prompted Capasso and a team of fellow-animal lovers to start the charity, For the Love of Pets and People. This year will mark the third anniversary of their Charity Car & Motorcycle Show on May 20 at the Mamaroneck Avenue Corporate Center in White Plains.

“We feel so fortunate to have these dream machines, and we wanted to do something a little different to give a voice to the little creatures that have no voice,” she said.

The proceeds will benefit Guiding Eyes for the Blind, as well as the rescue group and shelters affiliated with Central Animal Hospital in Scarsdale. Last year, Capasso was able to donate $2500 to those organizations. This year, she hopes to increase that amount.

“Think about the animals that are abandoned on doorsteps or left at the veterinarian offices and make a donation,” she said.

Local businesses have already jumped on Capasso’s bandwagon. Authentic Window Design in White Plains, Deiana’s Custom Collision in Bedford Hills and Guiding Eyes for the Blind have all signed up to sponsor the event.

There is a $20 entrance fee for cars and $10 for motorcycles in the Charity Car & Motorcycle Show. Call (914) 774-1958 for more information.
