EASTCHESTER, N.Y. Henry Doc Davila of Eastchester died March 30. He was 84.
Born in Manhattan, N.Y. on Sept. 12, 1927, he was the son of Virginia Torres (Olivero) and Peter Davila. He lived in Bronx, N.Y. before becoming a longtime resident of Eastchester. Davila married his childhood sweetheart, Mary Pistachio, on May 9, 1948 and was a devoted husband for 59 years until her death in 2007.
During World War II, Davila served in the US Navy as a radioman on the destroyer USS Beatty, which escorted General MacArthur into Tokyo Bay for the signing of the peace treaty with Japan. He attended Samuel Gompers Trade School and was a member of the cadets.
Gifted in many trades including electrical, plumbing and automotive, Davila was a master carpenter and cabinet maker. He became an expert in the dairy industry managing operations for Armel, Breyers, Meadowgold and Farmland dairies. His favorite job upon retirement was his 15 years as a bus driver for the Scarsdale school system, where he was known as Mr. Hank.
He is survived by his children Linda (Mario) Vitti of Mamaroneck, Robert of Stamford and Gina of Eastchester and three grandchildren, including the special spark in his life and best buddy, his 9 year-old grandson, Nicholas. Davila is also survived by his in-laws Anthony and MaryAnn Pistachio and was predeceased by his in-laws Joseph and Angelina Pistachio.
Friends may call from 4 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday at Coxe and Graziano Funeral Home in Mamaroneck. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday at Immaculate Conception Church in Tuckahoe. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Hawthorne.
