Panel Shifts Advice On Aspirin Use To Prevent Heart Attacks, Stroke Federal health officials are changing course in their previously well-held recommendation that American adults take aspirin to prevent heart attacks or strokes. For decades, taking a low-dose aspirin has been recommended to improve heart health, but on Tuesday, Oct. 12, an expert panel from the US Preventive Services Task Force updated its guidance. The previous guidance recommended daily low-dose aspirin for people over 50 who were at higher risk for heart attacks or strokes in the next decade and who weren’t at higher risk for bleeding. Joan Crevcoure, Maryknoll Sister For 73 Years, Dies Sister Joan Crevcoure, M.M. died on Friday, Oct. 18 at the Maryknoll Sisters Center in Maryknoll. She was 93 years old and had been a Maryknoll Sister for 73 years. Joan Crevcoure was born in Green Bay, WI on Oct. 12, 1926 to May B. (Fortier) Crevcoure and J. M. Crevcoure. She had one brother and one sister, both of whom have predeceased her. Joan attended West High School in Green Bay from 1940 through 1944. Sister Maria Rickelman, Maryknoll Member For 73 Years, Dies Sister Maria Rieckelman died on Dec. 28 at the Maryknoll Sisters Center in Maryknoll. She was 91 years old and had been a Maryknoll sister for 73 years. She was born in Cincinnati, Ohio on Aug. 31, 1927 to Mary (Mathews) Rieckelman and Harry H. Rieckelman and given the name Alice. She had two sisters: Mary Louise and Edith and two brothers: Harry H. Jr. and Charles J.; all of whom have predeceased her. In 1945, Alice graduated from St. Mary’s High School in Hyde Park, Cincinnati. She then entered the Maryknoll Sisters Novitiate at the Maryknoll Sisters Center in Ossining on Sept. 6, 1945 fr…
