Newburgh's Proposed 2018 Budget Lowers Property Tax; Hints At Layoffs NEWBURGH, N.Y. – Newburgh City Manager Michael Ciaravino unveiled a proposed spending plan for 2018 on Tuesday that would reduce the property tax rate for homeowners, but could also result in some staffing reductions. The $44.4 million spending plan would reduce homeowners' property tax rate by 29 cents per $1,000 of assessed value. Walden Man Indicted On Stabbing Charges WALDEN, N. Y. – A Walden man was indicted on several charges Tuesday stemming from a stabbing that took place last month, according to the Times-Herald Record.  Lawrence Simms, 30, allegedly used a sharp object to stab and seriously injure one man and then attempted to stab another on Sept. 18. Montgomery Father Indicted On Child Endangerment Charges MONTGOMERY, N.Y. – A Montgomery father was indicted on charges of menacing police officers and endangering the welfare of his children on Tuesday, according to the Times Herald-Record.  Officers responded to a 911 call on Sept. 25 to find Steven Garcia, 39, on the front porch of his home shirtless and bloodied from an apparent self-inflicted wound. Garcia was shouting at his family and turned his ire toward police. He began waving a knife at them and telling them to shoot him, authorities said. He was 26.  The son of George W. Williams Jr. and Brenda L. Williams, he was born on May 16, 1991. Williams, who spent 8 years battling drug addiction, was a HVAC Specialist with Mamakating Heating & Cooling in Bloomingburg. He was a member of the Mamakating Conservation Club.
