Cortlandt Sweeps Wpba Softball Doubleheader

CORTLANDT, N.Y. -- Cortlandt continued its solid play, sweeping visiting North Salem, 6-5 and 6-0, Wednesday in a Westchester-Putnam Baseball Association 16-and-under softball doubleheader.

Cortlandt improved to 9-1 this season as it also defeated Katonah, 6-2, Tuesday.

Gabby Caruso, Megan Jahoda and Adrena Daw each had two hits and drove in four runs among them as Cortlandt grabbed a 6-0 lead. North Salem rallied with five runs in the fourth, but Caruso came in and slammed the door.

Natalie Messina tossed a two-hitter in the second game and Maria Ferrioli had two hits and drove in a run.

Cortlandt trailed Katonah, 2-1, through five innings before tying the score in the sixth. Caruso doubled and she came home on a Ferrioli single. In the top of the seventh, Cortlandt came out swinging, stringing together four consecutive hits. The rally was capped by Daw's two-run triple.

“Each girl has contributed in some way either pitching, hitting or fielding,” Cortlandt manager Kurt Pelaccio said. “The past three games has been a perfect example of this. Each game someone has stood out and helped the team win. We have a bunch of solid players.”
