Cortlandt Archery Range To Host First Tournament

CORTLANDT MANOR, N.Y. – The Blue Mountain Sportsman Center in Cortlandt will hold the inaugural tournament for its new 3-D archery range on Sunday from 7 a.m. to noon.

The course began as an Eagle Scout project headed by Nelson Trusler of Troop 911 in Yorktown and Brian Powell of Troop 45 of Van Cortlandtville Elementary School. Archers walk a path through the woods with 14 shooting stations and life-size foam animal targets along the path. Archers shoot targets on hills, in valleys and between trees.

Deputy County Executive Kevin J. Plunkett, County Parks Commissioner Kathleen O’Connor and Friends of Westchester County Parks Chair Elizabeth Bracken-Thompson had planned to take a tour of the new range on Thursday at 2:30 p.m., but inclement weather forced a postponement.
