Summerfest in Croton a Huge Success

Thousands of people streamed onto Croton’s Old Post Road South and Grand Street on Sunday for the 24th Annual Summerfest celebration. Nearly five blocks of Croton streets were barricaded by Croton Police for the annual parade and block party.

The streets were filled with music from two live bands, food from over a half dozen vendors, jewelry, clothing, beer, friends and neighbors. An estimated two thousand people attended the festival, which was marked by mild, cool weather.

“It’s a success,” said Tania McVeety, patron of the festival, “because it’s not hot.”

The festival began with a parade from Veteran’s Corner, on Cleveland Drive, to Old Post Road North in the center of town. Local preschools, dance schools, the Croton Fire and Police Departments, Pierre Van Cortlandt cheerleaders, Croton Harmon High School cheerleaders and various other civic organizations participated in the parade. Even the Croton mascot, the Croton tiger, was present and counted.

Civic organizations from Croton and the surrounding area setup tables to inform festival attendees about their organization. Some of the tables included the Croton Friends of History, The Croton Free Library and  the Croton-on-Hudson Education Foundation.
