Panas Students Celebrate the 'Milestone' of Class Rings

YORKTOWN, N.Y. – Paul Sherman and Esteban Baquero wore their new class rings Wednesday night, after attending Walter Panas’ junior class ring ceremony.

“It’s exciting, because it’s a milestone for us in high school,” Sherman said.

Baquero echoed his friend’s sentiments, as did his high school principal Susan Strauss.

“It’s a milestone, because this is something we’ll have through high school and later on,” Baquero said. “This is something I’ll always have to remember high school by, and to show my friends and eventually family.”

Both students were accompanied by their families, who attended the ceremony as part of the traditional event.

Kelsey Lewis was joined by her friend Ayla Brammer, the two compared rings after the ceremony.

“It kind of reminds me of how long I’ve been here, and what’s coming up when I graduate,” Lewis said.

Brammer added, "This is something we've looked forward to, and now that it's here, it's very exciting.”

Strauss reminded the students that the day was an occasion to celebrate the present, and look toward to the future. The quote by Rose F. Kennedy, “Life isn't a matter of milestones, but of moments,” summed up the occasion, Strauss said.

“‘Life is made up of both memories and momentous occasions.’ The milestone students are experiencing tonight will leave a mark on them on what is a milestone to them today, but it is also a time for them to look at what is going to come next,” Strauss said. “It’s very important to look forward, and to do it with the support and in company of your family and friends, and that’s what we did tonight.”
