Siren Test Scheduled For Indian Point

BUCHANAN, N.Y. -- Residents shouldn't be alarmed when they hear Indian Point sirens going off across the area on Wednesday, Nov. 9. It's just a planned test of the siren network.

There will be a test of the Indian Point sirens at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 9.

The test will take place at 10:30 a.m. in Westchester, Rockland, Putnam and Orange counties, officials said.

If there was an emergency at the nuclear power plant, the sirens in the area would be sounded continuously at full volume for four minutes, followed by an activation of the Emergency Broadcast System on radio and television stations to report important information and instructions.

The sirens are not a signal to evacuate, rather they are intended to alert the public to tune to a radio or television station for important information.

No action by the public is necessary during testing.
