Senasqua Park Hosts a Third Grade Milestone

CROTON, N.Y. —The third grade class of Carrie E. Tompkins Elementary celebrated the end of the year with a picnic in Senasqua Park Monday, the first time students were allowed to have the annual end-of-year bash off school grounds.

Students played kickball, blew bubbles and ran around as about three dozen parent-volunteers cooked burgers and hotdogs for the children.

“I think it’s important to give the kids a chance to run and be free, and have fun with their friends and their wonderful teachers,” said Kristi Godek, one of the main organizers of the event. “It’s a great way to celebrate the end of the school year and celebrate their accomplishments.”

The class of 138 students enjoyed an obstacle course while parents cooked in the sun, talking about how much the children have grown since September.

Parents complimented one another, saying how helpful everyone was and willing to work for the children.

“The parents are so quick to respond,” said Kathy Reynolds, another parent-volunteer. “If you don’t get (an) email right away you don’t have time to respond because everything’s already taken care of.”

The students enjoyed their celebration. In third grade the pleasures in life are simple - cheese puffs, burgers and, for Madison Godek, the fact that “my dad’s grilling.”
