Police: Man Accused of Stealing $500 in Merchandise at Cortlandt Kohl's

CORTLANDT, N.Y. -- Westchester County Police charged a Bronx man with petty larceny, after Cortlandt Kohl’s department store personnel reported the man attempted to leave the store with merchandise in a shopping cart.

Solomon Venable, 60, of Inwood Avenue, Bronx, was charged with petty larceny, a misdemeanor, after loss prevention personnel reported he attempted to leave the store with a cart of $504.62 in merchandise, said county police. Venable is due in Cortlandt Town Court on May 4. The incident was reported April 21, at 2 p.m.

The following items also were reported by police:

Burglary in Progress: Westchester County Police said they responded to a report of a burglary in progress at a residence on East Main Street. The female occupant of the residence called police and locked herself in her bedroom after hearing noises elsewhere in her apartment. County police said the resident’s ex-boyfriend was found in the apartment by police and stated he thought he was allowed to return. The woman did not wish to press charges but the man was advised he would face arrest should he re-enter the residence. The incident was reported Friday, April 20 at about 9:30 p.m.

Menacing: A Queens man is facing two misdemeanor charges after Westchester County Police said he was accused of driving onto the front lawn of his estranged wife’s home, and forcing his way in through the front door. Filippo Gallina, 36, of 69th Place in Queens was charged with misdemeanor criminal trespass and misdemeanor menacing. The incident was reported Thursday, April 19, just before 10 p.m.

Verbal Dispute: Westchester County Police responded to a verbal dispute between a moving crew and a homeowner on Lynwood Road. The dispute was over money and all parties were advised that the matter would have to be resolved in civil court. The incident was reported just after 4 p.m. on Tuesday, April 17.
