The ailing 5-year-old Lab mix’s escape through a second-floor window shocked the woman who had been caring for him for Rescue Dogs Rock NYC, a Manhattan-based organization.
“He slept all the time. He didn’t even snore,” said Debbie, who wanted to go by her first name only.
“It was a big effort even to get up and to go out for a walk,” she said of her charge.
Hutch has heart worm and “kennel cough,” or canine infectious traneobronchitis, a highly contagious respiratory disease.
Like a lot of rescue dogs, who may have been abused or neglected by previous owners, Hutch was gentle, but a “very scared dog,” Debbie said. “He cowered a lot,” she added.
She and the organization has gone all out to find Hutch. A professional “tracker” has been deployed and all relevant local organizations, from the police to veterinarians to animal control officers have been notified.
Hutch was wearing a green harness with the words “Life is Good” printed on it when he bolted.
His picture was posted on the Website, Lost Pets of Westchester County.
Anyone who spots the lost pooch is asked to call either Debbie at (914) 255-0550 or the rescue group at (914) 309-0882.
