The shutdown was caused by a fluctuation in water levels inside the plant’s steam generators. Prior to Wednesday, the unit had been online for 252 continuous days, the release stated.
Buchanan’s Indian Point Energy Center is home to two operating nuclear power plants — unit 2 and unit 3 — which generate approximately 2000 megawatts of electricity for homes, businesses and public facilities in New York City and Westchester County, the release said.
Unit 3 was not affected by unit 2’s shutdown.
