Cortlandt Moves Forward With Plans for Sewers

CORTLANDT, N.Y. - Cortlandt has several plans in the works to create sewer districts in certain areas of the town.

Two of the districts being considered are along Route 6 near the Cortlandt Town Center. One would extend west from Westbrook Drive to the Bear Mountain Parkway extension. The other would stretch from Route 6 in front of the town center up the hill to Lexington Avenue and north to McArthur Boulevard.

Town Attorney Thomas Wood explained the pipes that would extend to Lexington would help several businesses and housing complexes that currently have health issues related to failing septic systems.

"It's a plan that has been around for many decades," Wood said. "The numbers (costs per property owner) aren't looking too bad."

Cortlandt Supervisor Linda Puglisi said many businesses in the area have been requesting sewers.

"We have been interested in having sewers up the corridor for years," she said. "We're kind of tying in this mini-Master Plan."

Another sewer district being discussed would benefit Camp Smith and the town's Department of Environmental Services offices on Roa Hook Road near Annsville Circle.

"This sounds like a really good idea," Council member Ann Lindau said.
