The family of 34-year-old Richard Pusatere, who is among 33 seamen who remain unaccounted for, has been devastated since officials announced the ship had sunk last week, hudsonvalleynews12.com said.
He was a graduate of Archbishop Stepinac High School in White Plains and SUNY Maritime College. More recently, Pusatere lived in Virginia Beach with his wife and young daughter, hudsonvalleynews12.com said.
Pusatere was an engineer aboard the El Faro, a 790-foot cargo ship. The ship reported an unexplained engine failure last Thursday as Joaquin hit the Bahamas. A U.S. Navy salvage unit is reportedly en route to the search sight to help pinpoint exactly where the ship went down, hudsonvalleynews12.com said.
