Al Menzer, the market's cheese and appetizer director, said DeCicco’s recently participated in The Taste of Fall Festival to get the word out to customers and reach out to food vendors. Menzer said all the offerings on the new menu, which have organic ingredients and can be prepared gluten-freewhich upon request, will be available for viewing on the market’s website next week.
In addition to its catering menu, Menzer said the market is famous for its hot buffet steam tables for lunch and dinner which are prepared daily from fresh ingredients by master chefs.
The holiday menu, which will also be available next week, includes complete Thanksgiving dinners made from scratch from start to finish. Entrees include a choice of turkey, ham, and filet mignon. The market additionally offers a variety of holiday baked goods.
Menzer said the market can cater any family event and prepare packages in as little as two days.
“Everyone loves a cooked meal they don’t have to cook,” he said.
Besides groceries, the market specialties include its cheese cases with 200 varieties from around the world cut and wrapped fresh daily and the largest beer selection in Westchester County, according to Menzer.
“This is what separates us from the chain stores,” he said.
Menzer said what truly separates the market from other businesses though is the family atmosphere and the superior customer service, which he said is DeCicco’s “number one” priority.
Starting in 1973, DeCicco Family Market opened in the Bronx with brothers Frank, John and Joe DeCicco and has grown to include other family members. The market has since expanded to nine locations with a tenth opening next month in Cornwall.
Menzer, who has worked at the market for 20 years, said what keeps him going is his passion for food and feeling like he is a member of that family.
“Frank treats me as if I were his own son,” he said. “This is a very nice family to work for.”
