What's Happening This Weekend Around Cortlandt

CORTLANDT, N.Y. - This weekend residents can brush up on their Bach with chamber music recitalist Daniel Lippel at the Croton Free Library, or grab some mums and pumpkins from the Peekskill Rotary Horse Show and Country Fair.

Friday, Sept. 21

"Holes," by Rob Shepperson 8 p.m. An art reception for illustrator and painter Rob Shpperson, at The Black Cow. The Black Cow is at 4 Old Post Road S., Croton-on-Hudson.

River Lovers Meeting 6:30 p.m. Enjoy a potluck supper and a talk about the archeology of Croton Point Park with John Phillips of the Westchester County Parks Department. The event takes place at the Croton Point Park Nature Center, and is sponsored by River Lovers.

Fourth Annual Hudson Valley Irish Festival 11 a.m. - 7 p.m. Celebrate Irish American culture and enjoy live music, artists and craftspeople at Peekskill's Riverfront Green Park. 

Saturday, Sept. 22

Cortlandt Community Swap 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. The Town of Cortlandt is hosting a swap meet for residents to bring clean, portable and reusable items to share. All items are free to trade, nothing is for sale. Representatives from local businesses will be on-site for the "Cortlandt Green Fair." The event takes place at the Muriel H. Morabito Community Center, 29 Westbrook Drive, Cortlandt.

Croton Fall Festival 3 - 7 p.m. At Old Post Road and Vassallo Park, the Village of Croton and the Croton Business Council will host a Fall Festival. From 4 to 6 p.m., Fabulous Sixties Band plays at Vassallo Park, at 6:45 p.m., the American sports film "Rudy" will be screen outdoors at Vassallo Park.

Peekskill Rotary Horse Show and Country Fair 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. One of the largest annual events at Blue Moutain Reservation in Cortlandt Manor, this horse show features both English and Western riding courses, and breakfast for early arrivers. Parking and admission are free, and the show goes on rain or shine. There will also be hay rides, baked goods, apples, pumpkins and a "Kountry Kitchen." Sunday, Sept. 23

Digital Photography for Beginners 1 - 3 p.m. Bring your digital camera and photograph scenes around the Kathryn W. Davis RiverWalk Center in Sleepy Hollow with Elissa Schilmeister during this introductory photography program. This program is for children ages 8 to 14, and is sponsored by Teatown Lake Reservation. Fee is $10 per child for members, $15 per child for non-members. Programs fill quickly so registration is strongly recommended. Call 914-762-2912, ext. 110 to reserve.

Guitarist Daniel Lippel 2 p.m. Daniel Lippel will perform time-honored works from the classical guitar canon, including compositions from Bach and Schubert, alongside Latin American works and his own compositions. The performance will take place at the Croton Free Library, 171 Cleveland Drive, Croton-on-Hudson.
