CORTLANDT MANOR, N.Y. - There are a number of holiday events and performances this weekend, from performances of the "Nutcracker," in Yorktown to a "Festivus" celebration in Croton.
Friday, Dec. 16
A Tuna Christmas This sarcastic look at the holidays in the south will be performed by the Croton Academy of Arts, located at 1392 Albany Post Road, Croton. Performances will be at 7 p.m., Friday and Saturday. Admission is $10 for adults and $8 for students.
Saturday, Dec. 17
Visit Santa at Croton Country Gardens while you pick out a Christmas tree. Santa will be at the garden shop on Saturday and Sunday, the shop is located at 1360 Albany Post Road in Croton. Call (914) 271-5129 for more information.
Candlelight Tour of Van Cortlandt Manor A guide carrying a candlelit lantern will bring guests through the Manor House and the Ferry House, there will be live music in both locations, and treats served afterwards. Guests are encouraged to dance to fiddle music in the Ferry House. There will also be storytelling. The event begins at 4 p.m. and runs until 8 p.m. Tickets are $14 for adults, $6 for children ages 5 to 17, and free for those under 5. Historic Hudson Valley members receive a $5 discount on tickets.
Festivus for the Restuvus A not-so-holy-day celebration will be held at Treasures and Tales in Croton. There will be magic crystal readings, a story teller, and the Wiz Kids Childrens Choir will perform. The shop is located at 139 Grand Street, the event will take place from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m.
Nutcracker The Westchester Dance Theater presents this holiday classic, the Nutcracker. The ballet about a little girl who receives a nutcracker for Christmas, and the fabulous adventure she has with the nutcracker in her dream. Performances will take place Saturday and Sunday. Saturdays performances are at 12 p.m. and 4 p.m., Sundays performance is at 1 p.m. Tickets range between $19 and $26. Visit the Yorktown Stage website for more information.
Sunday, Dec. 18
Nutcracker for kids The Paramount Theater in Peekskill will show an abbreviated version of the Nutcracker for young audiences. Performances will take place at 2:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. Tickets are $15, visit Dance for Joys website for more information.
