Croton Community Coalition To Host Vassallo Fest

CROTON-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. --  The fourth annual Vassallo Fest, sponsored by the Croton Community Coalition, will be held on Friday, May 16. from 3-7 p.m. at Vassallo Park.

Vassallo Park is behind Holy Name of Mary Church.

The event's theme will be "Don't Wreck Your Life" and will be presented as part of the coalition's mission to keep Croton kids safe and drug-free.

The highlight of the event will be the Wrecking Ball and Boot Camp Challenge Inflatable Obstacle Course, where kids can learn how to deal with bullying. Other events will have a drug and alcohol prevention focus.

The evening will also feature fun, games, entertainment and other activities for kids of all ages. A disc jockey will play music, and teen bands will perform on the Vassallo Park stage. There will be a pie-eating contest, field games, face painting and a water balloon toss.

Additionally, the Westchester County Police DWI Simulator Van and the golf cart Foggle Course will demonstrate to teens the effects and dangers of drinking and driving.

Information and activity booths will also line the park grounds, most from local drug treatment/wellness centers like Lexington Center, St. Christopher's, St. Vincent's and Drug Crisis in Our Backyard.

“As we head into the closing weeks of school and with the advent of warmer weather, teens start to feel the stresses of final exams and may experience peer pressure to experiment with drugs or alcohol," said Laurie Dean, coalition coordinator.

"The Croton Community Coalition sponsors Vassallo Fest to proactively show kids there are alternative ways to de-stress and to have fun with friends and family in a supportive, hometown environment.”

The event will be held rain or shine. In the event of rain, the fair will be moved to Croton Harmon High School.
